Bryant edges into Mitsubishi lead

Brad Bryant clinched the lead at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship with a seven-under-par second-round of 65.

That helped him edge ahead of Bernhard Langer in Hualalai. The duo entered the day tied for the lead and Bryant almost matched his opening round with eight birdies and a bogey to head the field on 15-under.

Langer also carded eight birdies but dropped a shot on each nine to finish 14-under.

The two-time Masters champion and the Champion's Tour Player of the Year last season, Langer birdied four of his last six holes.

Jay Haas is in third in the season opener on 14-under after recording a six-under 66.

Former champion Hale Irwin and Jeff Sluman are three strokes off the lead at 12-under.

The 63-year-old Irwin, who won this tournament in both 1997 and 2007, and Sluman each signed for a 67.

Defending champion Fred Funk is not competing in the event as he is sidelined with a right knee injury which plagued him for much of the 2008 season.
